  3. Type in the default gateway IP address of your WiFi. In case you do not know your router’s default gateway, check on the sticker at the bottom of the router. It should be there like most routers do.

  5. Now going back to the web browser, type in the default IP address. It should look like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. That two IP addresses are the most common default gateways. If those do not work, then the sticker we mentioned should keep you informed.
  6. As soon as you hit Enter key, a prompt will ask you for a username and password. We mentioned about it earlier already. I hope you paid attention and wrote those down.
  7. Type in the username and password and press Enter key again.
  8. Find the Wireless settings.
  9. You should see the SSID or WiFi network name. Delete that and use your own WiFi name like your own name or your favorite superhero name.
  10. Below that, find the Passkey, Passphrase, or Password as that means exactly what it says.
  11. Delete the old one and use your own password.
  12. This is the most important part. Write down the new username you want to use and the new password that you want to apply. If you forget just one letter, you will not be able to log in back to your WiFi network.
  13. Now find the Save button below or Apply button.
  14. The web interface should reload and your device connected wirelessly will lose internet connection as well.
  15. This means that everyone connected to the WiFi network is literally kicked out including you.
  16. Now, to get back in, use the new username that we told you to write down and the password as well.
  17. That’s it. You are back and with full control of your WiFi network. You will decide who gets in by giving them the password you applied.

Other Ways

Some modern routers have a mobile app support. This means that you do not need a web browser to access the router’s page. All will be done on a dedicated app. And since it is a dedicated app, it will have more advanced features for control.

One of those features usually involves parental control. You can decide which mobile device gets to stay inside the network. Since not all mobile devices’ app is the same. You will have to explore them yourself. Just look for parental control or something similar that says restrictions or connected device manager.

There is also a feature called Mac address blocking. This is a feature that gives you control over which device’s Mac address gets to join the network or not. The Guide to Setting Up any Wireless Router Easily

Whenever you get a new router, you need to set it up as per your requirements. However, you cannot do it if you do not know about the basic things of setting up a router. This guide will help you to set up any router that you have brought.

Each router is a world different from other, and therefore it is impossible to say with certainty where each section is located in each model. In each section, we have put some examples of different models that will help to find the corresponding section in each different model.

Thus, here we are with the very basic knowledge which you must have while setting up a router.

#1 How to access the router’s web configuration

It’s recommended using the process that includes the configuration using the web server.  Because it’s easy and user-friendly too.

To access the config page simply type “ipconfig” in command prompt which can be accessed by typing “cmd“, in the run box.

Here we will look for the IP address of the gateway and enter it to access this configuration web. Most of the routers use 192.168.l.l IP Address which you can access at 19216811.zone. (Note if you find it’s not working then maybe your router is using secondary IP 192.168.0.1, you can visit “https://19216811.zone/192-168-0-1” to access that page.)

#2 Entering the Password to access further settings

Routers are password protected to prevent unauthorized users from accessing them. If we have changed the password and did not know it, we must reset the router to the default values so that, among other things, the default passwords are configured.

Regarding passwords by default, the most used by most routers are:

admin/
/admin
admin/admin
1234/admin
admin/1234
1234/234

If none of them works, we should consult the manual or the sticker on the bottom where they are usually written.

#3 Securing our access points

To prevent users from connecting to our access point and to be able to navigate through the Internet with our connection, we must configure a series of security measures.

The first thing we must do is choose the type of encryption we are going to use. We can not leave the network open because anyone would connect to it and our traffic would not be encrypted or use a simple exploit algorithm that allows knowledgeable users to obtain our password.

The best option that we should choose in the encryption section is:
WPA2-PSK [AES]

Once this type of encryption has been selected, we can configure the access code. Having selected a WPA2 security password can have the characters we want, both uppercase and lowercase or symbols. For example:
## ConTR4s3Na_dMi_RuT3r1990 ##
The more complex the password and simple to remember for oneself, the better.

Some access points offer the possibility to configure WPA2 TKIP + AES. This means that devices that are compatible with WPA2 will use this type of encryption to connect, but those that are not will use the TKIP encryption, corresponding to WPA and less secure than WPA 2.

#4 Selecting frequency, 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz?

As for the frequency, if our router and all the devices connected to it support the 5Ghz technology we should use this as it has fewer devices that use it. It offers better coverage, higher speed, and better stability. However, if one of our devices does not support this frequency it will not be able to connect to the Internet, so then we must configure the network to 2.4Ghz and choose the least saturated channel.

Most current routers have an automatic channel analysis so that they will choose the least saturated to work with.

#5 MAC filtering

Some models allow you to configure a “MAC Filtering” that analyzes all MAC addresses that connect to the access point and allows or blocks access according to the configuration.

If our AP has this function, we can add to the “whitelist” the MAC addresses of our devices configuring this filtering so that only those MAC addresses included in the whitelist can connect to the Internet, leaving all the others (for example, users not authorized) with blocked access.

#6 Open Ports

Opening ports are one of the most requested actions by users. The ports are usually used to establish connections of different applications with the corresponding remote servers to work, for example, a torrent client to download or an online game to be able to connect to the server of said game.

Each application usually uses a single port between 0 and 65535, although the first 1024 are reserved for simple applications and should not be used (for example port 80 is HTTP, 443 HTTPS, 21 FTP, 22 SSH, etc.).

If we want our connection to work correctly, we must open in our router the ports used by the application that we are going to use, linking each port to the IP address of our computer.

#7 UPnP

Some router models come with a UPnP server by default. This server is responsible for communications are carried out correctly without having to worry about the ports (since he is responsible for redirecting traffic) opening connections when necessary and closing them when they are no longer needed.

#8 Configure a DDNS server

Users who need to connect from outside the home to their computers or resources can choose to configure a DDNS server or Dynamic Domain Name Server. This allows our IP address, even if dynamic, to be always updated and linked to a domain of the style: my_name.no-ip.org.

#9 Update the Firmware

The firmware of a router is what we know as the operating system. This usually receives updates periodically in which new functions and features are included while correcting essential security flaws that may appear over time, so it is vital to always keep the most updated versions to navigate safely through the network.

#10 Set up a parental control

The parental control allows to block specific web pages not suitable for minors and even filter certain words so that in case of finding a web with such content, it does not get to be established.

For those parents who have minors under their responsibility, this option can help (although it is not 100% effective) to the child does not access web pages not recommended for him being blocked in the router and registered in the registry of the router itself.

Google Campus: Fueling the London Tech Ecosystem

 

Google Campus, located at the heart of London’s tech city, celebrates its first anniversary this month and can look back at a year in which it has made a large impact on fueling London’s ecosystem.

Google Campus has received a large amount of attention from the press and tech community alike since its opening. Many businesses and thought leaders have flocked to Campus – some out of pure curiosity and others with the determination to find young tech developers to help them realise their tech vision.

It is part of the technology revolution which, I believe will cause as much change to the world as the industrial revolution.

It was early in February 2012 that I realised that there was a number of people who were building products in their own bedrooms, professionals who were sick and tired of their 9-5 jobs and were starting a business on the side but weren’t suited to the conventional accelerator programs such as Seedcamp, Ignite100, Oxygen and Springboard now known as TechStars London, amongst others.

These programs cater to a small percentage of tech businesses and they tend to be very structured which, of course, has plenty of benefits, but I felt that there was room to create an idea validation platform that would serve as pre-incubator / pre-accelerator for those that are still building their products.

With that idea in mind I approached Google Campus in late April and was given permission to start running monthly Minimum Viable Product Demo Days. The first one took place on the 2nd June 2012 and to my surprise around 80 people turned up. Fast forward to April 2013 and since we began we have had in total more than 1000 people attending our monthly MVP demo days.

112 startups have taken to the stage, in front of peers and influencers of the startup scene to show off their products. Our monthly demos have now expanded to other cities such as Birmingham, Cambridge and most recently – venturing outside of the UK through the opening our new branch in Budapest, Hungary.

The Magic Formula

So what’s the magic formula? Well we focus on combining 3 key factors that are vital to success, yet not accessible to any startup founder: community, collaboration and capital.

The results have been nothing short of amazing. For example, partnerships have been formed which go on to co-found businesses, one of them being Sponsorshive, we have seen companies such as Sorted going on to join and
graduate from Oxygen, Tablecrowd and signkick have also made an impact. We have also seen others go on to raise angel investment.

All of these wonderful things wouldn’t have happened if Campus hadn’t opened the doors for us and provided us with the rich environment that encourages collaboration. At times, all you need is just someone else who believes in you.

The Future is Bright

When all you have is an idea and a minimum viable product; getting out of the building, talking to customers and receiving feedback is paramount to the success of any founder. This is evidenced in that many participants of various accelerators have come to present their products and get real world feedback to make sure they are building what people want to use.

Angel investors use The Founders Hive as a way to scout new talent, increasing their deal flow. We have seen a big increase of enquiries from big companies who want to collaborate with innovative startups and this is something that is very dear to our hearts. Safe to say; the future is very bright.

Founders Tale: Sponsorshive

Sponsorshive existed as an excited conversation by two people frustrated by the difficulties faced by event organisers in securing sponsorship.

Realising that sponsors faced an equally difficult task to find suitable events to reach specific audiences, they decided to build an online platform to match events with sponsors.

Having successfully built the platform, gained interest from brands and event organisers alike, Sponsorshive already has a significant number of beta users and a successfully proven concept under its belt.

The First in the new series, Founder’s Tale, Sean Obedih, founder of The Founders Hive, describes how meeting the right co-founder enabled them both to quickly and successfully launch an exciting, new online platform.

Q: Where did the idea for Sponsorshive come from?

A: ‘I had been working on this project for a while but it was always on the back burner because I was concentrating on building up The Founders Hive. The biggest challenge I have faced is in securing sponsorship for our events.’

‘There just wasn’t a simplified way to let sponsors know about our events, so naturally the field for interest is narrowed. Eventually, the claxon blared in my mind and I thought to myself: Enough is enough’

‘I managed to secure a small sponsorship amount from an accountant who came to our events frequently and that’s when I realised that if we could create a platform that allows both small and large businesses to sponsor events and reach micro segments, we would be on to a winner.’

Q: Once you had the idea, what did you do next?

A: ‘Everyone I spoke to about the idea gave me positive feedback. I even received an investment offer before it was built and that’s when I knew that I had something special on my hands.’

‘It was at this point that I was fortunate enough to meet a young talented developer called Ramario Depass who had presented a very clever app at one of our MVP Demo days. I explained what I wanted to do and it clicked with him straight away.’

‘Collaboration, as I always say, is vital to success in the startup scene. Working with Romario has been fantastic. We compliment each other’s abilities and share the vision for the product. We immediately got to work, and the rest as they say is history.’

Q: What has been the response to the launch of Sponsorshive?

A: ‘It’s been nothing short of astounding. Within 24 hours we had events listed with a combined value of well over £20,000 giving us a solid validation for our Minimum Viable Product and that our service is needed.’

‘This is without any marketing apart from a few links we posted across our social platforms. We were also recently featured on Betali.st and we had over 250 people sign up for our beta.’

‘We have made fantastic progress within the last few weeks and even started to secure clients,one of them is Popchips who we worked together with for an event, distributing more than 300 packets of Popchips, exposing their brand to a new audience.’

Q: Do you have competitors? What makes Sponsorshive different?

There are many opportunities we are able to create, in embedding brand’s messages, enabling interactions with specific audiences and adapting everything in real time whilst generating reports. A: ‘Our goal is to improve the product over the next few weeks and get more events organisers, brands, marketing managers and agencies to use our platform.’

‘There are a few more events already in the pipeline that I can’t mention at the moment but it looks promising.’

Our monthly Minimum Viable Product (MVP) events have attracted more than 800 attendees in London and Birmingham, where 75 startups have had the opportunity to pitch and demo their companies.

A number have successfully met co-founders amongst the attendees, Table Crowd, Job in a Second and Iwaz.at have hugely impressed with their pitches and Sorted went on to join Oxygen Accelerator.

Our Promise

We promise that no startup will ever have to pay to demo or pitch their product or company at any of our events. Through the development of the concept of our events, we decided that the best approach is to invite startups to pitch or demo their company completely free of charge.

This frees up the playing field for all startups, those with cash and those who are bootstrapping their way to the top. All are encouraged to apply and attend, whatever their particular goal. We will do all we can to provide the best environment for networking, funding and team forming potential.

We currently have a high-rate of participants who return to our events, which we believe speaks volumes for the approach we now have. We aim to provide a positive feedback and networking environment for startups.

The Future

The culmination of our experience and expressed interest from startups and investors Europe-wide has led to the creation of Viable Tech Summit. Its aim is to unify the dispersed sections of Europe’s seed-stage startup scene.

Our goal is to showcasing Europe’s best seed-stage startups within an environment that provides plentiful chances to network with influential figures, including investors and the press.

We want to ensure that no exciting, potentially high-growth, high-impact startup slip through the net of Europe’s scattered startup scene. Find out more about VTS 2013 here.

Clarification

Our monthly MVP events will never charge startups to pitch. There is no event without startups pitching. The Viable Tech Summit in April will adhere to the standard industry practice and charge attendees and not startups.

We take an iteration approach to our event organising. Each aimed to be better than the last.

What is a Peer to Peer Incubator and who needs it?

Over the past few year there has been a change in the startupsphere and Incubators and accelerators have become part of the process of founding a high growth tech startup. Last year Wired Magazine wrote an interesting article called After the tech incubator bubble but the best and the oldest of them all is Idealab.

These instruments of change have changed the way companies are started and have served the Investment community well since they help to put a spotlight on some companies that would never get a chance to secure an appointment with Investors let alone secure an Investment round.

So it begs the question who on earth needs another accelerator or Incubator? well the answer is that we believe that even though these institutions are essential to the growth of the ecosystem,they are not for everybody and they are very strict,in essence they only serve the 1% of startups,so how about the 99% and who cares about them? We started Foundershive with a mission to help entrepreneurs execute their ideas better and find partners that become the catalyst of their business growth and this allowed us to see even great entrepreneurs with fantastic ideas but 75% were looking for a co-founder and more often than not it was a technical co-founder;everyone seems to be looking for a developer and that is why we think enrolling for one of the short courses provided by the Makers Academy would be of great help to many people.

10 Resources For First Time Entrepreneurs

Do you have aspirations to start your own business in 2013? First time entrepreneurs may have a lot of unanswered questions. The 10 resources listed here are aimed at giving you a head start on entrepreneurship, startups, innovation, small business and much more.

Website
The very first step in building an online presence is a website, but it can often seem like the most daunting challenge. Creating an attractive, effective website need not cost you much money.

1. WordPress – It is the favourite CMS for many startups and web designers alike. Free themes (templates for your website) are often a bit tacky, but decent premium themes are falling in price all the time – as well as increasing in quality. It’s a no brainer.

Communications
Having the opportunity to do business with people all over your country, and the wider world, can greatly increase an entrepreneur’s business growth.

1. Skype – Just about the best means to quickly, cheaply call or video call anyone in the world. There are no restrictions on the length of time you call someone else’s Skype account, and landline calls work out about as expensive as it would be if you were in the same country.

2. G+ Hangouts – The one drawback to Skype is that conference video calls are locked behind a premium account. This is where G+ Hangouts come into the equation. You can now also add regular phone calls to the conversation.

Time and Project Management
Productivity is the buzzword within the startup community. With such a large workload to get a company off the ground, using time effectively is essential to all aspects of life, social and professional.

1. Google Calendar – The staple calendar tool. The beauty with Google Calendar is how easy it is to use and the compatibility it has across all devices and OS’s. You can also share events with other Google users via email.

2. Vitalist – Getting Things Done is the motto Vitalist lives by. They’ve now built up an impressive user count proving the worth in their product. You can easily organise your projects and actions online.

Outsourcing
There are just not enough hours in the day, nor enough people to do all the tasks required. Sooner rather than later you will need to look elsewhere to lighten the workload. Hiring Freelancers is easier than ever before. You can either go direct to the source or find agencies in the area you require who will look after everything for you.

1. Elance and oDesk – Possibly the two most recognised portals for hiring Freelancers. Each Freelancer is given ratings by their previous employers so it is easy to get an idea of the quality of work you can expect.

2. People Per Hour – A lesser known portal but very useful for hiring Freelancers for smaller, one off projects.

3. Agencies – Whatever department you are looking to cover – an agency will be happy to step in to take care of it for you. From Copywriting to Design, Business Planning – you name it.

Inspiration
Learning from those in the business of entrepreneurship is a must-do. It can also be very entertaining.

1. TechCrunch & Mashable – The big hitters in Startup news and Tech gossip. They’ve built up their reputation over many years, with hundreds of articles published every day. You’re first stop to get up to date with the world’s tech affairs.

2. Ted Talks on Entrepreneurship – If you’ve never seen a TED talk before, then you are in for a treat. Think of it as a series of the world’s best Lectures all about stuff going on today. Video archive on talks about entrepreneurship.

Innovation is Dead! Long Live Innovation!

“You promised me Mars colonies. Instead, I got Facebook.” This has become the slogan of the frustrated innovator since appearing on MIT Technology Review’s front cover last year.

David Rowan, editor of Wired UK, challenged the audience at last week’s Oxygen demo day to innovate in the true sense of the word. His point is that innovation has stagnated.

He is not the only one who believes that innovation has died and been replaced by clones and quick flips to make money fast.

And it is true that many ‘successful’ companies and entrepreneurs have taken this path. The Samwer brothers are a shining example of serial entrepreneurship based mainly on execution of ideas.

Inspire

David was not seeking to lay blame or vent his frustration, but to inspire us to use our ability for true innovation which changes the world for the better – or allows us to explore other worlds.

His message matches our own, changing the world for the better is one of our own core beliefs, but it is often a very difficult concept to encapsulate and drive towards.

One place where the big problems are being systematically targeted is Sliicon Valley’s Singularity University which has formed to help future leaders prepare and move towards these kinds of goals.

They have set out to meet the growing challenges facing the world in almost all areas: Space, Energy, Security, Education, Global Health, Poverty, Sustainable Water, Food for Cities and Upcycling.

They have highlighted these areas specifically due to the exponential growth of the problems facing them.

‘A number of exponentially growing technologies will massively increase human capability and fundamentally reshape our future’

Problem Solving Tech

Students at the University, consisting of post-grads and entrepreneurs, focus on the study of these technologies alongside the world’s largest problems.

The aim is to allow thought patterns to develop between students and staff and develop methods by which new technologies can be leveraged together to have an impact.

‘…to assemble, educate and inspire a new generation of leaders who strive to understand and utilize exponentially advancing technologies to address humanity’s grand challenges.’

They really do mean humanity’s grand challenges. Their project 10⁹+ challenges the students to build business models, products and services utilizing technology to help one billion people within ten years.

An example of the kind of project born from student’s efforts is Naishio, would enlist converging technologies (bio plus nano plus solar) to desalinate seawater more efficiently.

Get in on the action

Of course, you do not need to attend Singularity University to generate world altering innovations, or dream of renting an apartment on Mars. Innovation is a mind-set.

The Masters of Execution

Successful Startups are based on a good idea at their core, but the idea itself is not the be all and end all. Even the very best ideas fail with poor execution.

Execution, in this context, is the processes needed to take a good idea and turn it into a viable, high growth business.

There is no market for selling good ideas. In our view, then, it is the execution which is the most important part of any potential Startup, though it is often overlooked.

The Samwer brothers can perhaps be described as the masters of execution. They are serial entrepreneurs whose success rate, based on high value sales, is unparalleled.

They began in 1999, creating Alando, a German speaking online auction site which dominated their 18 rival competitors in Germany. Within 100 days of going live it was bought by eBay for £35million.

Following this initial success, their execution model took them to the sale of Jamba! a mobile phone content platform, for £176million in 2004.

They then invested in StudiVZ (German-counterpart to Facebook), MyVideo(German-counterpart to YouTube) and set up Rocket Internet Accelerator, a Berlin-based incubator, in 2007.

Their model has proven to be extremely effective. Trimmed of all the fat, the model is to take the concept of successful US-based tech Startups and market their own version in Germany.

This has led to many labelling the Samwers as ‘Cloners’ or ‘Copycats’, but the proof of the value in the model lays in the indisputably impressive track record when it comes to creating profitable, high-growth Startups.

How have they done this?

The Samwer brothers have had the distinct advantage from the outset, that they have a fully fledged team within their close family. Each brother of the three (Alexander, Marc and Oliver) have their own skill-set.

Speaking to Wired Magazine in 2012, Oliver said: “My younger brother is probably the most intelligent and my older brother is probably the best at execution — I’m somewhere in the middle,” he says. “It’s a perfect team.”

“My advantage is never that I’m the first,” he says. “Never. My advantage is that we just build faster and better in more instances than anyone else.”

They could rely on each other to work as enthusiastically on projects as themselves, whilst combining skills to refine ideas and execute them in the most efficient manner.

The lesson all entrepreneurs can take from the Samwers, whether or not they agree with the ‘cloning’ label, is that execution is the pathway to success.

As the late, great Steve Jobs so finely said, ‘To me, ideas are worth nothing unless executed. They are just a multiplier. Execution is worth millions.’

Founding The Founder’s Hive

It has been a challenging, exciting road that has led our team and The Founder’s Hive to where we are now. We are finally in a position to lead the new wave of Peer to Peer Incubation which we believe is the future of tech entrepreneurship.

It is important that anyone seeking to work with us knows a little about our history and the vision we have for The Founder’s Hive. As the principal Founder I would like to take the opportunity to share the story so far.

Innovation

Business has been my interest since the tender age of 10, but it took some time and experience before I realised that innovation excited me more than selling someone else’s creations.

In 2007 I put theory into practice with my first venture, a brand of skin toned first aid products (Ynotplasti). This experience taught me the value of problem solving in new business which has become the main driving force behind The Founder’s Hive.

The idea for The Founder’s Hive did not immediately appear in my mind, as good ideas rarely do, but instead required a series of events which led me to a natural conclusion.

Entrepreneurs First is a programme which selects graduates from the UK to help build Startups. I applied but narrowly missed out on a placement because the app I wanted to build hadn’t been built yet.

The problem was that finding the right co-founder was an almost impossible task. I realised that if I faced this problem, the likelihood is that I am not alone. I therefore set to addressing the problem with a platform to enable co-founders to connect.

Pieces of the Puzzle

It did not take long before it became obvious that simply meeting co-founders was only a part of the puzzle. Startup incubators and accelerators are limited in supply, meaning countless Startups never have the chance to get off the ground.

They fail simply due to a lack of advice or mentoring from seasoned entrepreneurs, a lack of skilled team members and a lack of funding opportunities.

A Peer to Peer incubator is the solution for that problem. Collaborative consumption is the way forward and should also apply to Startup creation.

The Founder’s Hive needed to develop from a way to connect to a way to supply everything the common entrepreneur lacks with their first Startup.

Our Exciting Team

We have formed an exciting team around this concept to drive The Founder’s Hive through constant iterations, taking it from early development through to the stage where we are confident that we can deliver the services budding entrepreneurs need for high growth Startups.

As with all lean Startups, sponsorship remains a challenge, but with new stability of structures in place we are more able than ever to tackle such issues.

The Vision is to democratise tech innovation by helping game changing ideas/products/services come to market in the form of high growth Startups.

Our premise is built on three pillars: Collaboration, Community and Capital, meaning we are focused on building partnerships that will enable us achieve that goal.

The Founder’s Hive is for creative people, bursting with ideas who, given the right team and advice, wants to turn ideas in reality. It is for developers seeking exciting projects and a positive environment to solve complex problems.

We can provide this for you. There are opportunities to be grasped with both hands to change the world we live in for the better through innovation. I didn’t know that when I was 10, but I do now.
